More heavy showers and thunderstorms pounded the islands for a second straight day Tuesday as a tropical weather system continued to hang over the Caribbean.

By Tuesday night, 3.03 inches of rain had been recorded at King Airport since midnight Monday, according to Jose Alamo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. On the east end of St. Croix, 3.17 inches of rain fell between 6:30 p.m. Monday to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Alamo said.

A flash flood warning from the weather service that was due to expire at 8 p.m. Tuesday was re-issued and extended until 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

It’s nice to have some blue skys again after days of rain. I would like to confirm that St. Thomas is still there and has not floated away since I can actually see the big island from our office window again! It is clearly a well deserved beach day so I suggest to pick up some sandwiches from Baked in the Sun or Deli Grotto and get your chair to the beach!

I’ld like to say “sorry” to my two dogs who are stuck on the porch again today so they don’t turn my apartment into a muddy mess with yet more rain today (look at those sweet & innocent faces!). On a positive note, we have the smell of rain in the air, the temperature is wonderful, everything is green and/or blooming and everyone’s cisterns are getting full or overflowing.  It makes staying on the porch well worth it!

Ask any local where’s their favorite places to eat on island and Shipwreck Landing will be on the list.  Located on the South side of Coral bay, Shipwreck is right across the street from the beach with plenty of breezes, the sounds of surf and really, really good food! Still plenty of time to enjoy their great steaks; the restaurant will be closed for the Summer September - October and reopens November 1. Don’t forget to ask about the daily specials and if they are having barbequed ribs, I highly recommend!
